The next day we visited the American Museum of Natural History we had been here on our last trip to New York, but this museum could take easily take several FULL days of study.
The first thing we did was to watch “Journey to the Stars” a short film narrated by Whoppi Goldberg about the life and death of stars, like our sun. The movie is shown inside a globe within the four story tall planetarium of the museum – quite a sight in and of itself!
On the bottom floor of the planetarium the best display is the Willamette Meteorite (so named because it was found in Willamette, Oregon) weighing 15.5 tons! It is made of metalic iron. Thousands of years ago it traveled at 64,000 kilometers per hour and crashed into the earth’s surface. The top surface (see pictures) is covered with large cavities. This is because over the years the rainwater reacted with sulfur within the meteorite, creating sulfuric acid, which then ate away at the iron of the meteorite.
After the movie we wandered through the African Room. where there are panoramas of the various climates, and geographic areas of Africa including the birds, insects reptiles and mammals native to the area. The panorama also included the real animals, some birds and reptiles that have been preserved by taxidermy which make the displays really come to life.
We completed our stay with lunch in the food court, very nice, but not cheep!!

Go to the community colelges web site and type in art associates and see what classes you will need to take but also talk with an advisor because they might have further insight on it. Most colelges are different it is not a universal thing.

Unemployment is very high all over the state. Gaming revenue in Reno statred slipping as early as June 2006. It slid slowly for a year and a half and then began plunging as the recession began. The problem in Reno is that it is more sensitive to the massive Indian casinos that are opening up in Sacramento. It is quite possible that June of 2006 is going to be the peak gaming earning of all time for Reno. They have only built two casinos since 1980 (Western Village, and Silver Legacy). When the economy picks up it will undoubtedly start with new hotel towers or new casinos in Sacramento. Reno just can’t compete with being 100 miles closer to the population centers and not having to cross the mountains in bad weather.==================Downtown Reno has about 8000 rooms (same as the old downtown in Vegas), but many casinos are closing and being turned in condos. The major ones operating are:Harrah’s Reno 974 roomsSilver Legacy 1712 roomsEldorado 817 roomCircus Circus 1572 roomsCal-Neva Virginia===========Immediately across the river is the Grand Sierra Resort with 1995 rooms which is doing very poorly. -The two casinos near the convention center (Atlantis and Peppermill) are very nice, but they may suck up most of the convention business, while downtown languishes as the business coming from the freeway becomes more and more limited. It is unfortunate that Reno was sidelined by the Olympic committee for the 2014 and the 2018 Winter Olympics because of the failed Chicago bid. They will put together a serious bid for 2022, but that is a long way off.==============Right now the airport is very limited. They have non-stops to Chicago and Dallas (as does most airports) and then to about 13 West coast cities, They are on the verge of being classified by the FAA is a small airport. Right now they are one of the lowest ranked medium airports. If you are not one of the roughly 70 medium or large airports that carry 89% of the air traffic, business does not look kindly on the city as a potential place to relocate. Plus once you get classified as small there is much less government money available for improvements.
