BBQ Cook-off and Bounty of the County Nevada County Fairgrounds

 

PART OF THE FESTIVITIES AT THE DRAFT HORSE CLASSIC WEEKEND

In between Draft Horse performances at the Nevada County Fairgrounds, September 18 – 21, take time to visit two tasty events happening on the grounds during the weekend – “Backyard BBQ Cook-Off” and “Bounty of the County.”

On Saturday, September 20, from 1 – 4 pm, taste the delicious samples of food made by BBQ experts. Tasting tickets will be available at the event at 5 for $10. Come taste the treats, enjoy a beverage or two, and sit back and listen to live musical entertainment by local favorite “Cool Heat.”

On Sunday, September 21, Bounty of the County takes place from 1 – 4 pm.  Bring your appetite to this fun and delicious event, hosted by Nevada County Grown. Bounty of the County is a pairing of fabulous local chefs with the finest produce and meats of Nevada County Grown farmers and ranchers. This is local, fresh, and delicious food at its best – and a feast for your palate. In addition to great food, there will be music, vendors, demonstrations, and educational booths. Artists’ Studio in the Foothills (ASiF) will also feature an art exhibit and sale. For the children, there will be plenty of activities, including veggie stamping, pasta shell necklaces, recycled paper pots, butterfly plant markers, and a soil discovery station. Tasting tickets will be sold at the event at 3 for $10, and proceeds benefit local agriculture. Additional details can be found at NevadaCountyGrown.org.

In addition to these two tasty events, the Harvest Fair is bustling with activities during the weekend, including musical entertainment on the Pine Tree stage, Art at the Classic, delicious festival food on Treat Street, a clogging jamboree, a Western Trade Show, and visits to the barns.

The Draft Horse Classic and Harvest Fair runs September 18 – 21 at the Nevada County Fairgrounds. There are six performances featuring the magnificent Draft Horses – Thursday and Friday at 6:30 pm, Saturday at 10 am and 6:30 pm, and Sunday at 10 am and 4 pm.

Draft Horse Classic Tickets on Sale Now

Majestic Draft Horse performances, breath-taking competitions, and seeing a Draft Horse “up-close” are all part of the festivities at the 28th annual Draft Horse Classic and Harvest Fair, September 18 – 21, at the beautiful Nevada County Fairgrounds in Grass Valley. Featuring six performances by the beautiful Draft Horses, this event has become the premier Draft Horse show in the western United States. The Classic spotlights a variety of horses, teams, and performances; featuring everything from farm wagons, carriages, and driving competitions to dancing horses and racing mules.  The stars of the show are the horses, and with more than 120 horses stabled on the grounds, the Classic offers a unique chance to observe them in a multitude of settings.

Tickets to this event are on-sale now.  Once again, we’re offering discounted pricing on adult admission tickets for evening performances, as well as on morning performances and children’s tickets.  Tickets can be purchased by calling (530-273-6217), faxing (530-273-1146), or visiting the Fair Office on McCourtney Road. Tickets can also be purchased on-line at NevadaCountyFair.com. There is a small transaction fee if you order your tickets on-line.  Ticket order forms are available at www.NevadaCountyFair.com. Choose from six performances!

Although there is a charge for the Draft Horse performances in the arena, admission to the Fairgrounds is free so all can enjoy the many activities of the Harvest Fair happening during the four days of the Classic. Visit the grounds to enjoy western music, Harvest Fair agricultural competitions and hundreds of community exhibits, a clogging jamboree, horse shoeing demonstrations, delicious food on Treat Street, and artwork at Art at the Classic. Plus, you don’t want to miss the opportunity to visit the barns and meet the famous Draft Horses up-close.

On Saturday of the Classic, it’s the Backyard BBQ and Chef’s Challenge Rib Cook-Off, happening from 1 – 3:30 pm. Whether you want to show off your cooking skills or simply join the fun and taste the treats – we’ve got it all in one place. Tasting tickets and alcoholic beverages will be available to purchase at the event.

Bring your appetite to this fun and delicious event, hosted by Nevada County Grown. Bounty of the County is a pairing of fabulous local chefs with the finest produce and meats of Nevada County Grown farmers and ranchers. This is local, fresh, and delicious food at its best – and a feast for your palette. In addition to great food, there will be music, vendors, demonstrations, and children’s activities.

Tasting tickets – available at 2 tickets for $5 – will be sold at the event, and all proceeds are for the benefit of local agriculture. Additional details can be found at NevadaCountyGrown.org.

On Sunday, September 22, from 1:30 – 4 pm, watch as barbecue experts show off their cooking skills at the “Classic Barbecue Cook-Off.”  Once they’re done cooking, you get to taste the treats – ribs, chicken, pulled pork tacos, sandwiches, brisket and a variety of delicious barbecue. Tasting tickets will be available at the event at 5 for $10. Come taste the treats and listen to live music by one of Nevada County’s favorite bands, The Dyin’ Breed.

“SAUSAGE, BRATS AND BEER” AND A “CLASSIC BARBECUE COOK-OFF” – PART OF THE FESTIVITIES AT THE DRAFT HORSE CLASSIC WEEKEND

In between Draft Horse performances at the Nevada County Fairgrounds, September 20 – 23, take time to visit two tasty events happening on the grounds during the weekend – “Sausage, Brats and Beer” and a “Classic Barbecue Cook-Off.”
On Saturday, September 22, there’s a “Sausage, Brats and Beer” showdown, where six top chefs are paired with a sausage manufacturer to create incredible sausage dishes, and you get to sample the results.  The challenge begins at 1 pm, with food sampling from 2 – 5 pm.

On Sunday, September 23, from 1:30 – 4 pm, watch as barbecue experts show off their cooking skills at the “Classic Barbecue Cook-Off.”  Once they’re done cooking, you get to taste the treats – ribs, chicken, pulled pork tacos, sandwiches, brisket and a variety of delicious barbecue.

Tasting tickets will be sold at both events, and beer and beverages will be available. Additionally, live entertainment will be provided on Sunday by The Dyin’ Breed Band.
