nevada-county-fair-poster-2
Inner-grounds and gates to be locked at 4:30 pm and closed on weekends
Effective November 1, the Nevada County Fairgrounds will return to its winter hours. This change in hours means that the Fairgrounds’ inner-grounds and gates will be locked at
4:30 pm, Monday through Friday, and closed on weekends.   The inner-grounds and gates will remain open during the week to walkers and bicyclists, but all must be off the grounds before the gates lock at 4:30 pm.

The winter hours only affect the inner-grounds and gate closures; it does not affect the Main Office, which is open during its normal business hours of Monday through Friday from
8 am to 5 pm.  Additionally, the RV Park at the Fairgrounds will remain open, and the gates and inner-grounds will remain open for any events that are taking place on the grounds during the winter months.

You Think We Have Traffic Jams in Nevada County?

httpv://youtu.be/ySSrG7HgvIQ

Thousands of Bangladeshis crammed ferries and trains, leaving Dhaka on Thursday to return to their home villages and celebrate Eid al-fitr, which marks the end of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan. Don’t show this video clip to the airlines, they may get some new ideas on seating. I also wonder if they have enough life preservers for all those people on the ferries?

Fire Safe Council Offers 2014 Firewise Calendar

2014-firewise-calendar

The Fire Safe Council of Nevada County in cooperation with the Allstate Foundation, County of Nevada and the National Firewise Communities Association are offering residents in Nevada County free defensible space advisory visits to educate citizens about Defensible Space. Complete your visit in October or November and get a 2014 Firewise Calendar.

California Public Resources Code 4291 requires every landowner to “maintain around and adjacent to the building or structure a firebreak made by removing and clearing away, for a distance of not less than 100’ on each side of the building or structure or to the property line, whichever is nearer, all flammable vegetation or other combustible growth”.

In addition, this code allows insurance companies to require

landowners to maintain their vegetation.

We live in a wildland urban interface area which has the potential for catastrophic wildfire.

Receive custom advice about:

  • Building materials
  • Fire facts
  • How to manage the vegetation on your property
  • Plant species considered “high fire risk”
  • Proper clearance from structures
  • Proper signage for your property
  • Answers to any questions you might have about the defensible space around your structures
  • And a variety of other helpful information

In addition, you will be provided with referrals for contractors and other resources that could help you achieve your fuel objectives.

Advisors will inform residents about:

  • The burn permit process
  • The California Forest Improvement Program (CFIP)
  • The FSCNC Chipping Program
  • The FSCNC Special Needs Assistance Program

September 19 – 22, 2013

Join the beautiful Draft Horses for the 27th annual Draft Horse Classic and Harvest Fair, happening September 19 – 22, 2013 at the Nevada County Fairgrounds in Grass Valley.  Featuring six performances by the beautiful Draft Horses, this event is the premier Draft Horse show in the western United States.

The Classic spotlights a variety of horses, teams, rigs and performances; featuring everything from farm wagons, carriages, and driving competitions to dancing horses and racing mules.  The stars of the show are the horses, and with more than 120 horses stabled on the grounds, the Classic offers a unique chance to observe them in a multitude of settings.

Tickets are on sale now! This year, we’ve lowered the price of adult admission tickets for evening performances – making them more affordable than ever.  Additionally, we’re continuing our offer of discounted pricing on morning performances and children’s tickets.

In between classes, enjoy showcase specialty acts. This year, we welcome Tommie Turvey – a world-renowned equine entertainer, stuntman and one of the best movie horse trainers of today – who will be featured at each performance. Tommie’s horses have been featured in many movies, including “Batman: The Dark Knight,” and he did the training and filming of the Budweiser Clydesdales horses for the 2013 Superbowl commercial.

Also taking place at the Fairgrounds during the four days of the Classic is the Harvest Fair, which features musical entertainment, a clogging jamboree, Treat Street goodies, Art at the Classic, horse shoeing demonstrations, a chance to visit with the horses, and hundreds of community exhibits.

On Saturday of the Classic, spend time at the Bounty of the County.
